50 Most Frequently Lost Items on Vacation in Thailand

Be careful with the following list of items when you are on vacation, in a survey of Lost Item Report Forms we’ve found that these are the 50 most commonly lost items during a trip overseas – specifically Thailand.

List of 50 Most Common Lost Items in Thailand

  1. Smartphones – People lose their smartphones so easily because they are frequently handled and used. They are easily left behind because we put them down on a counter where they are not retrieved when leaving the area!
  2. Passports – We tuck them away for safekeeping but sometimes forget where they are! I have put them in socks and forgot they were there. It’s not fun to lose one. You should probably put a tracking pod you can find with GPS in your passport right now while you’re thinking about it. Passports can be forgotten in hotel safes, left in pockets, or misplaced during travel between locations.
  3. Wallets/purses – With constant use for cash and cards, wallets and purses are commonly left behind in restaurants, Thailand taxis, or misplaced in bags.
  4. Credit/debit cards – Cards are used many times on vacation and often left in Thailand ATMs, on store counters, or forgotten after a transaction.
  5. Sunglasses – Frequently taken on and off, sunglasses are often forgotten at the beach, in cafes, or left behind on tables.
  6. Keys (hotel, car, home) – Keys are small and easily overlooked, often lost in the shuffle of bags, or left behind in hotel rooms or rental cars. Again, it’s worth putting a tracking device on your keys.
  7. Luggage – In the chaos of travel, luggage can be misplaced at airports, hotels, or during transfers between locations. Don’t leave your bags in the taxi!
  8. Cameras – Carried for capturing memories, cameras are sometimes left behind at tourist spots, restaurants, or forgotten in transportation.
  9. Headphones/earbuds – These small items are often taken out and set down during flights or commutes, easily lost in seat pockets or left behind in hotels. This has happened to us numerous times. TIP – Apple AirPods can be tracked with the Find My app on your iPhone.
  10. Chargers (phone, laptop, etc.) – Chargers can easily be left plugged into walls in hotels or forgotten in airport lounges, especially during hurried departures.
  11. Jewelry – Frequently removed for safety or comfort, jewelry can be left behind in hotel rooms, bathrooms, or lost at the beach. Rings and necklaces can slip off in the ocean, and it happens often. We have had many reports of this at Lost Found Thailand.
  12. Watches – Removed for relaxation or water activities, watches are often forgotten on nightstands or misplaced during activities.
  13. Travel documents (boarding passes, itineraries) – Shuffled between bags and pockets, these papers are easily misplaced or forgotten in the rush of travel.
  14. Tablets/iPads – Used during flights or for navigation, tablets are often left behind in airplane seat pockets, cafes, or hotel rooms. They’re just so thin and easy to miss! You can track your iPad with a mobile phone or Apple Macbook computer.
  15. Books/e-readers – These are often set down and forgotten in public places like cafes, on planes, or by the pool.
  16. Hats/caps – Frequently removed and set down, hats are often left behind at restaurants, in taxis, or at tourist spots. Hats also blow off as you’re riding a motorbike or Tuk-Tuk that is open-air. Secure it!
  17. Clothing (jackets, scarves, etc.) – These items are often removed and forgotten in cafes, at tourist sites, or left behind in hotel closets.
  18. Shoes/slippers – Left behind in hotel rooms or on the beach, footwear is easily forgotten, especially when packing in a hurry.
  19. Glasses/contact lenses – Frequently removed and set down, glasses and lenses are often misplaced in hotel rooms, bathrooms, or left at cafes.
  20. Hotel room cards – Small and easy to overlook, room cards are often left behind in the room, at the pool, or in bags. They are expensive to replace, so make sure you always know where it is.
  21. Maps/travel guides – Frequently used and then set down, maps and guides are often left behind in cafes, taxis, or at tourist sites.
  22. Medication – Sometimes forgotten in the rush of packing or left behind in hotel rooms, medication can easily be misplaced. Restrooms are a bad place for items because you may not check it before you leave your hotel room.
