Losing your mobile phone while traveling in Phuket, or anywhere in Thailand is an absolute nightmare! In Phuket, it happens more often than you’d think—at the airport, in taxis, on the beach, or at a party. This guide will walk you through exactly what to do if you’ve lost your phone anywhere on the island, so you can recover it as fast as possible. Please note, this is a do it yourself guide, but we can DO IT FOR YOU when you fill out this form.
Step 1 – Don’t Panic. Try Calling or Tracking It First
- Use another phone to call or message your number. Many locals will answer and try to help. Some won’t!
- Try Find My iPhone (iOS) or Find My Device (Android). You may be able to see its last known location or force it to ring.
- If it’s offline, mark it as lost and leave a callback number.
- If you have important Crypto investment info and access to other financial accounts on the phone, you might choose to wipe the phone immediately. Assume someone could get into your phone and access your data. What would you lose?
If you were using a Thai SIM card, log into your service provider account and freeze the number.
Step 2 – Think Hard: Where Were You When You Lost It?
This is key. Where you go next depends entirely on where the loss happened. Ask yourself:
- Was I at the airport, bus station, beach, hotel, restaurant, or in a taxi or Grab/Bolt ride?
- Was I drunk or distracted? Could it be in any of 15 locations in Phuket?
- Did I put it in a bag, seat pocket, or bathroom counter? Did I hide it?
Now let’s go location by location.
Step 3 – If You Lost It at Phuket International Airport (HKT)
There are multiple Lost and Found counters at HKT depending on where it happened:
Inside the Airport (Before Security)
- AOT Lost & Found Desk – Domestic & International Terminal
📍 First Floor near the information counter
☎️ +66 76 351 166 ext. 2136 - Email: [email protected]
Inside the Plane or Baggage Claim
- Contact the airline directly. Each airline (AirAsia, Bangkok Airways, etc.) has its own office at the airport who can help you locate lost items in planes or on their buses out to planes, in airport terminals, etc.
Step 4 – If You Lost It in a Taxi
- If it was an official Phuket Taxi, call the Phuket Land Transport Office: ☎️ 076 211019
- If you got the license plate, car color, or driver ID – give that info immediately.
- If you booked it through your hotel, contact them first. They will likely have direct contact with the driver.
Step 5 – If You Lost It in a Grab or Bolt Ride
- Go to the app’s “Ride History” and select the trip.
- Use the “Report an Issue” or “Lost an Item” feature. They’ll connect you with the driver via in-app chat or phone.
- Both platforms typically respond within hours, and many items are returned quickly.
Step 6 – If You Lost It at a Hotel or Restaurant
Hotels and restaurants in Phuket are usually very helpful:
- Contact the reception or manager ASAP.
- Ask them to check security cameras and staff logs if they cannot immediately find it. Some will cooperate quickly. Others may take weeks.
- Leave a written description of your phone and contact info at the front desk.
Step 7 – If You Lost It on the Beach or at a Tourist Attraction
- Check with nearby vendors, surf rental booths, or beach security if available.
- Many locals pick up found phones and hand them to lifeguards, tourist police, or vendors.
- Leave your contact details in the area with someone trustworthy.
Step 8 – Report It to Tourist Police
- Phuket Tourist Police – ☎️ 1155 (24/7, English-speaking)
- Or go in person: 📍Tourist Police Station Patong – Thaweewong Rd., Patong Beach (near Bangla Rd. area)
- Give them a clear description: model, color, brand, lock screen info, IMEI if possible
Step 9 – File a Report on LostFoundThailand.com
This is Thailand’s only national platform for lost item recovery.
- Use the Phuket 2025 Phuket Lost or Found Report FormLost Phone Report Form
- Your report gets listed publicly and shared across social media platforms, especially locals’ FB groups.
- You can upload a reward amount if you want extra incentive
Step 10 – Contact Your Embassy If It Had Sensitive Data
If your phone had immigration stamps, visa info, or identity documents:
- Report it to your country’s consulate in Phuket or Bangkok
- Reset all bank, email, and social passwords as fast as possible
- Consider wiping the device remotely if you haven’t already done so
Bonus Tips for the Future
- Use a lock screen message with alternate contact details
- Install tracking software
- Use waterproof phone pouches when going to beaches or boat tours
- Keep IMEI and SIM card details saved somewhere else
