Losing a passport in Thailand usually means dealing with your embassy — and that process is slow, frustrating, and disruptive. Before you go down that path, retrace your steps immediately. Check with hotels, restaurants, taxis, tuk-tuks, and airport staff. These places all have procedures for handling lost property, and passports are one of the items most likely to be turned in because nobody wants the risk of holding one.
Don’t wait. File a report right away and contact Tourist Police Thailand at the same time. Acting fast gives you the best chance of getting it back before it disappears into a system that can take days — or longer — to resolve.
